Educational kitchen gardens – out-of-school activities for children

At the present time, Spain occupies third place in the list of European countries with the largest surface area devoted to organic agriculture. However, Spain’s consumption of organic food is much lower in comparison with other countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom, who have for many years now included organically-grown produce as part of their regular diet.

The challenge currently confronting all of us is to begin to educate ourselves  –and others– in the added value of products deriving from organic agriculture, which is also a synonym for sustainable agriculture, and is therefore a subject that needs to be included in the school curriculum. Because new generations and new times are increasingly demanding the replacement of today’s predominantly unhealthy fast foods. That is why Agricologia will provide student vegetable plots, outside the schools themselves, where children can be taken on guided visits in order to get to know, try out and learn the different procedures, from sowing to harvesting, thus helping to awaken in the new generations an awareness of new healthier eating habits.
